Background of the Study

Campaign financing plays a pivotal role in shaping electoral outcomes and political accountability. In Nigeria, regulatory frameworks such as the Electoral Act set limits on campaign spending and mandate transparency in political financing (Bello & Ahmed, 2023). However, enforcement of these regulations remains a critical challenge, with widespread violations undermining the integrity of elections. In Lokoja Local Government, Kogi State, issues such as unregulated spending, lack of transparency, and weak enforcement mechanisms hinder fair competition among candidates. Studies emphasize that effective campaign financing regulations promote accountability and reduce corruption in the political system (Usman & Garba, 2024). This study examines the state of campaign financing regulations and their enforcement in Lokoja, highlighting the implications for electoral integrity.
